Rico Priem, a 9-1-1 crew member who died on Saturday, May 11, while driving home from a 14-hour work shift, died of a heart attack rather than drowsiness, as was initially suspected.
‘9-1-1’ Crew Member’s Cause of Death Confirmed:
According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Priem died of sudden cardiac failure and had cardiomegaly (an enlarged heart) with left ventricle hypertrophy. His death was considered natural, and there was no evidence of fatal traumatic injuries.
In addition, the toxicology report was negative for alcohol or other drugs. As previously reported, Priem, a grip on the ABC procedural, died last month while driving home from a 14-hour overnight on-location production in Pomona, California. The California Highway Patrol said Priem’s truck “left the roadway for unknown reasons, went up an embankment, and flipped onto its roof.” He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Many people felt that Priem’s death was the result of drowsy driving after a lengthy work shift. The death occurred while the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) was negotiating with studios, where they had expressed worries about excessive hours placing workers at risk while driving home.
“We are fully dedicated to the security and well-being of all our members and express our deepest sympathies to the member’s family,” according to a statement issued by the IATSE. “Workers are reasonably expected to travel to and from work safely. No one should be put in dangerous situations while working. Following Priem’s terrible death, the studio behind 9-1-1, 20th Television, wrote, “On behalf of the entire studio and every.
20th Television, the studio behind 9-1-1, also issued a statement following Priem’s terrible death, stating, “On behalf of the studio and everyone at 9-1-1, we send our sincere and deepest condolences to Rico Priem’s family and friends.” Speaking at the Disney/ABC upfront last month, 9-1-1 star Angela Bassett addressed Priem’s loss, telling reporters, “The studio, 9-1-1, we all extend our deepest condolences to his friends and family.” It was simply a sorrowful time. It has shocked us all.” According to a GoFundMe campaign established to assist Priem’s family and cover burial expenses, Priem was on the edge of retiring.
